The new wide-bodied airplane Airbus A350-900 ultra-long flight range (ultra long-range; ULR) made its first flight on April 23 . Thus, the flight test program of this machine was launched, which anticipates the first delivery of an aircraft scheduled for the second half of 2018.
In air tests, one prototype is being used - MSN 216, which will fly for several weeks. The car was equipped with Trent XWB engines manufactured by Rolls-Royce.
Starting and so far the only customer of the Airbus A350-900ULR is Singapore Airlines, which contracted seven such aircraft. It will put this type of aircraft, including non-stop flights between Singapore and New York. Airbus also hopes that such an aircraft will also be ordered by Australian Qantas to expand the long-haul route grid from Australia.
The new aircraft has a maximum take-off weight (MBM) of 280 tons against 275 tons in the base version, and the range of its flight is increased from 15,000 kilometers to almost 18,000 kilometers. The new version of the aircraft is equipped with a refined central fuel tank increased by 24 thousand liters capacity. Improved flight characteristics of aircraft are achieved due to aerodynamic improvements, among which are elongated on a half-meter of the ending and slightly modified twist of the wing. In the future, this improved wing will become the standard for the A350-900. Its version with a 280MT MBM will also be offered to customers .
