The Junkers F13 aircraft, which made the first flight 99 years ago, underwent modernization and was certified. The aircraft was named RIMOWA F13 .
The construction of the aircraft took two years. For the sample was taken the American version of the aircraft Junkers F13 - Junkers JL6. Prior to the first flight of the aircraft, it took seven years of research, planning and obtaining approvals. The car first took off in September 2016. Certification was obtained after extensive flight tests. Originally it was planned for the end of 2016.
Specialists had to study the technique of production of aircraft F13, which originally had an all-metal construction. The new model is produced using corrugated aluminum sheet. New technologies were used in the manufacture of only a small part of the aircraft, for example, brake mechanisms and a hydraulic shock absorber for the chassis. The car is equipped with a ring engine Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior 450 hp, which is still used worldwide. The work was carried out under the leadership of the Swiss Federal Civil Aviation Administration (BAZL).
The complexity of the first flight of the aircraft was that for today there was not a single pilot flying on this aircraft, who could tell about the features of piloting the aircraft. Despite these difficulties, the test flight went smoothly. The cruising speed of the car was 176 km / h.
In the future, the aircraft will be produced by a small batch of individual orders .
